Lanee stands alone as the only two-time winner of the Tudor Boardsailor
of the Year Award. Recognized by the 1994 selection committee for her outstanding consistency,
put by one member: "No other female competitor, pro, or Olympic contender,
finishes at the top in every event in which she participates." Lanee was immortalized
on a trading card by Sports Illustrated for Kids in May, 1994.
In 1994 Lanee was the first boardsailor ever to compete in the Newport (Calif.)
to Ensenada Race (Mexico), which she finished in 29 1/2 hours, sailing through shark
infested waters off San Diego where a young woman had been attacked just prior to the event.
She repeated the feat in '95 shaving time off her previous record.
