SAN DIEGO - February 23, 1995 - Riding with the all-women America3 sailing team today is Candace Andersson, wife of the syndicate's Director of Sails, Per Andersson. Candace was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and is currently undergoing treatments, including chemotherapy.
"Candace is a very special member of our America3 family, and our hearts and prayers have been with her during her recovery," said Bill Koch, CEO and chairman of the America3 Foundation. "We are very grateful that Candace is doing so well and could ride on the boat in today's race."
Ms. Andersson has been undergoing treatments at UCSD's Cancer Research Center. She and the America3 Foundation are also planning to hold a fund-raiser for breast cancer research at the syndicate's compound on Sunday, March 26.
"I'm really grateful to Bill Koch and everyone in the Foundation for their love and support," said Candace. "It has meant so much to me and to our family."
Candace and Per have two young daughters, ages three and seven. Per was a member of America3's winning sail team in 1992. Per came aboard the 1995 campaign as director of the sail program. The couple will be available for interviews after today's race with PACT '95.
