Adds Two More Grinders
SAN DIEGO, Calif. - December 14, 1994 - The America3 Foundation announced today that two new women have recently joined its historic all-women crew competing for the 1995 America's Cup. With the addition of the two women, who will both serve as grinders on the team, the current sailing roster now numbers 28. The latest members include:
Amy Lynn Fuller, 26, was a silver medalist in rowing in the 1992 Olympics and spent the past five years on the U.S. National Rowing Team. A native of Los Angeles, Calif., Fuller has taken a hiatus from her training for the 1996 Olympics to join America3 in November 1994. In addition to her silver Olympic medal, she holds 25 other national and international rowing titles. She was also 1993 U.S. Rowing Female Athlete of the Year. She graduated in biology from the University of California at Santa Barbara in 1990, where she also spent two years coaching rowing.
Anna Seaton-Huntington, 30, was a bronze medalist in Women's Pair rowing (with Stephanie Maxwell-Pierson) in the 1992 Olympics. Seaton was on the 1988 U.S. Olympic rowing team as well. She won 14 national championships and four world championship silver medals during her nine-year rowing career and was named by the U.S. Rowing Association as Female Athlete of the Year in 1990. She holds a bachelor's degree from Harvard University and a master's degree in journalism from Columbia University. Her husband, Stuart Huntington, writes for the San Francisco Examiner.
The Defender Trials for the America's Cup begin January 12, when the America3 women's team will make its first historic match race against Team Dennis Conner. Trials will continue throughout the winter and early spring, with the final America's Cup match scheduled to begin May 6. All races will be held in the waters off San Diego.
