Native of the Chicago suburbs. Began sailing and racing in 1982 in Portland, Oregon, on 30' to 40' boats. Has worked in the marine industry as captain and mate since 1987 in Hawaii and the Caribbean. Moved to Annapolis in 1990. Sailing experience include dozens of international buoy and ocean races, including the 1992 Newport-Bermuda race, the 1993 Marblehead-Halifax race and the 1992 New Zealand Women's Keelboat championships. Holds a 100-ton U.S. Coast Guard captain's license and is a certified diver. Has a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Maryland.(1/1/95)
