Grew up in a New England sailing family and has been sailing since the age of three. Extensive racing experience includes several all-women's teams in competitions such as the Rolex International Regatta; the Fort Lauderdale to Jamaica race; the La Rochelle (France) to New Orleans race; and the Southern Ocean Racing Circuit (SORC) (for the latter, she was part of the first all-women's team to participate). Other marine experience includes stints as deckhand on three-masted ships; sail repair at North Loft in Seattle; and sailing school and dive boat manager at the Ballard Marine Center, also in Seattle. As an entrepreneur, she ran the Yankee Marine Corporation boatyard in Newburyport, Massachusetts, and was Vice-President of Technivet, a veterinary supply company in Maine. She also has a degree in yacht design from The Landing School in Kennebunkport, Maine. Single mother of six-year old son, Matthew who is living with his father in Massachusetts during the campaign.(1/1/95)
